Have a 14 yr old combi boiler that was losing pressure and had intermittent heating. Couldn't afford a whole new boiler and Lee explained what he thought was wrong with what we had. He gave us a really competitive quote for the work and the boiler was working as expected within the week. He was very prompt, very tidy and friendly, and went above and beyond to get an old boiler firing again.

Boiler repairs we have done in Hove
In our customers’ own words. Every review here is from a Hove BN3 address and is about a boiler repair: lost pressure, heating that kept cutting out, and no hot water.
They came for a quote, diagnosed the problem, quoted a fair price, came back with a part, fixed it, tidied up and were done in about an hour. Lee even came back the following day to change the temperature of the hot water as we didn’t know how to do it. Great service.
Lee was recommended to me two years ago when he came and installed a new boiler. Since then he has been back to service it. The work was carried out efficiently and professionally and I was just so pleased to have found Lee at Pierson Heating. He really was an excellent recommendation. Recently I had a problem with my water pressure on the boiler, Lee came out at short notice and fixed it. He is very friendly, efficient and polite and I feel comfortable with him in my home. I have recommended him to several friends.
Lee arrived on time and explained what was wrong with my boiler and what he needed to do to fix it. Easygoing, efficient & helpful service. Highly recommended. Thanks Lee!
Why do boilers break down in Hove homes?
Hove’s housing runs from Regency and Victorian conversions near the seafront to whole streets of 1930s semis further north towards Hangleton. Each kind of home tends to have its own kind of breakdown.
In a flat converted from a larger house, the boiler is often squeezed into a cupboard with a long flue run, and a blocked condensate pipe or a flue fault will shut it down. In the 1930s semis, the boiler is most often a combi, and the common combi faults are pressure loss, a failed diverter valve (heating works, hot water does not) and worn fans and pumps.
Is my boiler breakdown an emergency?
Some faults need an engineer today. Others can wait for the next available appointment.
Call us now
- No heating or hot water at all in cold weather
- Water leaking from the boiler or its pipework
- Elderly, very young or unwell people in the home without heat
- A smell of gas or signs of carbon monoxide (see below first)
Can usually wait for an appointment
- One radiator cold while the rest are warm
- Pressure dropping slowly over several days
- New noises from a boiler that is still heating
Gas safety and carbon monoxide
Carbon monoxide poisoning can cause headaches, nausea, breathlessness, dizziness, and in serious cases collapse or loss of consciousness.
It is often mistaken for flu or food poisoning. Two signs that point to carbon monoxide rather than a normal illness: your symptoms ease off when you are away from the property, and other people or pets in the house feel unwell at the same time.
If you suspect carbon monoxide, act immediately:
- Open doors and windows to ventilate the property.
- Leave the property and get everyone, including pets, outside.
- Seek medical help straight away.
- Do not use gas appliances again until a Gas Safe registered engineer has inspected them.
If you smell gas, turn off the supply at the meter if it is safe to do so, and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 straight away. Call us once you are safe.
Things you can safely check first
- Look at the pressure gauge on the front of the boiler. Most boilers want between 1 and 2 bar when the heating is off. Below 1 is a common reason for a combi to stop.
- Check the timer or thermostat has not lost its settings after a power cut, and that the thermostat is turned up.
- Do not take the boiler casing off. Only a Gas Safe registered engineer should open it. Keep warm with layers and an electric heater, never a gas or charcoal heater indoors.
Why Hove customers call us
Based in Hove
Our office is on Margery Road, BN3. You speak to us, not a national call centre.
Gas Safe registered
Every repair on a gas boiler is carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
Same team, new name
On Heating is Pierson Heating under a new name, with the same engineers and standards.
Breakdowns are more common in winter
Boiler faults tend to show up more often in cold weather, when a system is working hardest and problems that went unnoticed over summer come to light. If your boiler is getting older, it is worth having it checked before winter rather than waiting for a breakdown.
Hove FAQs
Should I repair my boiler or replace it?
Often repair, if the boiler is under about 10 years old and the part is still available. We will tell you honestly if a repair is not worth the money, for example on an old boiler with a failing heat exchanger, and talk you through a replacement instead.
How much does a boiler repair in Hove cost?
It depends on the fault and the part. We find the fault first and tell you the price of the repair before any work starts, so you can decide.
What should I do if I smell gas?
Turn off the gas at the meter if it is safe to do so, open doors and windows, leave the property and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999. Call us once you are safe.

We also repair boilers across the rest of the city and along the coast, including Portslade, Southwick and Shoreham-by-Sea to the west and Brighton to the east.
