Pierson Heating were incredibly helpful with suggesting the best place for our new boiler, helping to save space in a small house, the work that they did was amazing. It was all done very quickly and they cleaned up after themselves everyday. We didn't have to chase them for details or to finish the job, like with so many other companies. Attempting to renovate your first home can be a very stressful experience and Pierson heating were fantastic during this, reliable and hard working. We where very happy with the work that they did and will definitely use them again.
Unvented Hot Water Cylinders
Installation and servicing of unvented, mains-pressure hot water cylinders across Brighton & Hove.
What an unvented cylinder is
An unvented cylinder is a sealed hot water storage system fed directly from the mains, rather than from a header tank in the loft. That means hot water comes out at mains pressure, with a stronger flow rate to multiple outlets at once, unlike a traditional vented, tank-fed system.
- Mains-pressure hot water
- Sealed system, fed directly from the mains
- Strong flow rate to multiple outlets at once
- No header tank needed in the loft
Need work on a cylinder?
Unvented work needs a separately ticketed engineer. Tell us what you have and we will advise.
Who it suits
- Homes with multiple bathrooms
- Households with higher, simultaneous hot water demand
- Properties without loft space for a header tank
The G3 regulation
Unvented cylinders are covered by Building Regulations Part G3. Installation, maintenance and sign-off must be carried out by a suitably G3-qualified engineer. This is a legal requirement, not just good practice.

Unvented cylinder FAQs
What’s the difference between vented and unvented cylinders?
A vented cylinder is fed from a header tank in the loft, at lower pressure. An unvented cylinder is a sealed system fed directly from the mains, giving stronger, mains-pressure flow without needing a loft tank.
Do I need planning permission or building control sign-off?
You don’t need planning permission. Installation does need to comply with Building Regulations Part G3, which means it must be carried out and signed off by a suitably qualified engineer. This is a building control matter, not a planning one.
Can an unvented cylinder work with my existing boiler?
In many cases, yes. Get in touch and we can look at your current setup to confirm what would work.
How much space does it need?
Unvented cylinders don’t need a header tank in the loft, so space requirements generally come down to the cylinder itself and its location, rather than needing loft space as well.
